This Sunday, Feb 22, 9:45 pm. We will be viewing some of Maya Deren's short films and Divine Horsemen. The host has requested that folks dress in black and white (if you want to) to get in the spirit. Hope you see you ALL there.
"This book [Chick Flicks, B. Ruby Rich] has been prompted by my conviction that the present landscape of feminism and film has been deprived of its own history, substituting a canon of texts for a set of lived experiences long since forgotten, shelved, or denied by those who went through them." -Rich
In a way, Divine Horsemen, while an interesting film full of fascinating footage, is not very representative of M. Deren's work. She did not edit the film or finish it herself. I think she shot the footage, that was edited after her death. I am interested in reading a post-colonial critique of this work, but so far haven't found one.
